The Casselman Vikings welcomed the Ottawa West Golden Knights to the J. R. Brisson Complex on Wed., March 29, for game four of the best of seven CCHL2 Martin Division championship games. The Vikings took a 3-0 series lead into the game with a chance to sweep the Knights for the second time in two years.

The Knights finished the season in first place in the Martin Division and the Vikings were considered a slight underdog but the Vikings took game one 2-1, game two 5-3 and game three 2-1.

With a win, the Vikings would be in the final for the fourth straight year heading back to the EOJHL all of which they have won. The two teams battled to a scoreless first period but the Knights opened the scoring at 3:52 of the second period as Ethan Rendell-Watson scored from Connor Lacey to take a 1-0 lead.

The Vikings knotted the affair just 22 seconds later when Ryan Boucher scored from Sebastien Plante and Jeremie Lefebvre at 4:16. The Vikings took their first lead of the game when Lefebvre slapped one home from the right side of the ice off a rebound from Kyle Millett at 8:16.

Lefebvre scored his second of the period and third point of the game at 15:34 from Brady Clouthier and Isaac Barr on a power play and took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. The Vikings made it 4-1 when Harrison Wood sniped one after being sprung on a short-handed breakaway from Brendan Doherty and Samuel Gosselin at 4:03 of the third period.

The Vikings made it 5-1 when Carter Malette slid one to the back of the net from Tyler Somers at 9:09. The Knights got that one back at 17:51 as Peyton Francis scored from Justin Turner and Nicholas Domitrovic.

After getting possession of the puck in the Vikings’ end, the Knights pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker at around the 18-minute mark and had a couple of chances but with 20 seconds remaining in the game the Vikings Joel Hunt tracked down a clearing shot and scored into the open goal from Barr and Boucher.

The Vikings took the game 6-2 and swept the Knights four games to none taking the Martin Division Title for the second consecutive year and move on to face the Richmond Royals for the Barkley Cup.
